How the DOCSIS Technology Works When a customer downloads something over the Internet, that data is delivered over a piece of our network called a “channel.” Before DOCSIS 3.0, data was delivered over one channel. Now, using DOCSIS 3.0, we can bond several channels together to deliver even faster speeds. Think of channels like lanes of a highway. When we connect channels together, it transforms that single-lane highway into a multi-lane freeway. While the entire cable industry will deploy DOCSIS 3.0, we are blazing the path of innovation by being one of the first to integrate the technology and deploying it to more homes in the United States than any other company. What is the Major Benefit of DOCSIS 3.0? These speed upgrades help us provide meaningful and tangible benefits to our customers. For instance, customers can download movies, games and music faster while uploading files like photos in a flash. As an example, with DOCSIS 3.0, a customer can now download a 6 GB HD movie in about 16 minutes with our new Extreme 50 service. That compares to more than 8 hours on a 1.5 Mbps DSL connection en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DOCSIS
